BACKPACK BED FOR HOMELESS

Backpack Bed for Homeless is a national Australian charity that provides Backpack Beds and Fire Retardant Sleeping Bags to street sleeping homeless people without shelter.
The Backpack Bed is a portable all-weather emergency bed – that improves dignity, health, sleep, warmth, comfort and safety to people on our streets.
The charities Fire Retardant Sleeping Bag is machine washable, quick-dry, super warm and fire retardant to airline blanket standards.
The demand for Backpack Beds and Fire Retardant Sleeping Bags far outweighs the charities fundraising each year:
- Today over 122,494 Aussies will be homeless (ABS 2021).
- This year over 45,800 Aussies will sleep on our streets (ABS 2021).
- In 2021-22 over 81,000 requests for accommodation from homeless people across Australia could not be met (AIHW 2022).
- Life expectancy for homeless men sleeping on Aussie streets drops to 47 years (Bethlehem House 2014).
Backpack Bed for Homeless partners with over 800 homeless agencies to assist homeless people across the whole country.
A study showed, every Backpack Bed distributed to a homeless person without shelter delivers $3,319 in savings to the community in health, employment and justice costs (180 Degrees consulting 2018).
Backpack Bed for Homeless was awarded a Human Rights Award by the Australian Human Rights Commission.
